I currently volunteer as a British Red Cross Emergency Response Group Leader and have done for two years. During my time with the Red Cross I also served as an event first aider. It was a great honour to be asked to come on board and be a founding member of Scotia Medical Group.
My working life journey started away back in 1989 when I left my hometown of Paisley at the young age of 18, and joined the RAF Regiment. I spent 12 years in the RAF, and this is where my love of first aid started. Being deployed in many different environments over these 12 years. I have been to the Falklands twice, Belize in Central America, Cyprus, Denmark, Norway and Kuwait. Being able to have combat medical experience is a valuable life skill for this job, and to bring these skills into my volunteering and helping people has always been my passion. I am one of those people that when everyone is running away from an incident, I’ll be running in to help. For the years since I have left the RAF, I have kept up my first aid knowledge. When I was a football coach I would see many different injuries.
I now run my own business as a driving instructor, and with this comes seeing lots of driving incidents, or just general pedestrian incidents.
My aim over the next 3-5 years is to grow as much experience as a trustee and help build Scotia Medical Group within the community. I will share my experiences and knowledge from over the years and hope to instal great values to volunteers in Scotia Medical Group. It is my ambition that we create a safe and positive learning environment for our team whilst striving to give the best care to our community. I look forward to meeting new volunteers and working in our community whilst growing Scotia Medical Group to become a formidable institution in the North of Scotland. I look forward to sharing more information with you in the coming weeks as we continue to build our foundations and establish more strong connections.
